Biography
Aya Safiya is an LA-based singer-songwriter whose music “lives between the lines of genre and culture,” (Jocelle Koh, Asian Pop Weekly) and “defies standard categorization,” (Mitch Mosk, Atwood Magazine). The Bay Area-raised artist writes songs in both Japanese and English, drawing inspiration from the likes of Lana Del Rey, Feist, and The Beatles, as well as her rich background in Greek and other Near Eastern musical styles. Aya’s intimate lyrics and ethereal soundscapes create a repertoire that vividly reflects the romance, mysticism, and emotion that dominate her inner world.

“Offers the kind of fresh messages and rich sounds that will ultimately help push music forward.” —Mitch Mosk from Atwood Magazine
“She lets syllables extend, her voice ringing out with a perfectly clear tone — yet it’s often subtly fraught with tension, echoing the relationship ups and downs found in her lyrics. The result is soothing but with an undercurrent of the unsettling.” —Madeline Wells from East Bay Express
“You’ll notice Aya Safiya’s numerous singing styles, which range from soft and breathy, to deep and smokey, to high-pitched and saccharine” —Jessie Schiewe from SF Weekly
